Limassol Marina – the stunning new traveller destination at the historic Mediterranean edge of Cyprus – is to host The Limassol Boat Show 2017, which is promised to be the biggest event yet staged on the island! It’s sure to make the coolest of waves again this year with globe sailing lovers of luxury yachts, water sports and similar aqua leisure recreations.
Not everyone will be arriving by wind sail or water propeller. Management and staff at Londa Beach Hotel are making sure that everything is absolutely ‘shipshape’ as we welcome guests old and new arriving from the airport for the 3 day show. For a pre or after show refresh and energiser, the Londa Spa is currently also offering a treatment exclusive. As usual, Londa is in the swim of things! We’re just a 1 – 2 km drive along the Seafront road, which leads straight to the Marina and the Old Port.
Limassol Marina has come a long way since the Old Port of Limassol was constructed as a commercial and passenger enterprise in the mid 1950s. Development into the New Port in 1973 saw her role change to mostly being a safe harbour for fishing boats and recreational sailing. In 2010, a 17 million euro transformation of the area began, which was unveiled four years later complete with a magnificent 650-berth marina, artificial islands and residential dwellings.
Today, the Old Port is definitely a favourite on the to-do list for visitors to the island. The imposing white stone façade of 13th century Limassol Castle sits adjacent to vintage and modern style restaurants, coffee shops, elegant clothing stores and offices surrounding the area.
Diving, fishing and luxury cars
So what can visitors expect to see at this year’s show? Firstly, the annual gathering of industry professionals and prospective buyers will offer thousands of visitors the opportunity to view exhibitor products and services in the unique setting of the Marina and the Old Port. At the same time, within the ΤΡΑΚΑΣΟΛ Cultural Centre, more than 70 exhibitors from Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Britain and Russia will be showing a huge range of products, accessories and anything else related to yachting, boats, water sports, diving, and recreational fishing. Whether you’re nautical minded or not, there’s sure to be something for everyone. Among some of the more spectacular offerings, visitors will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with a range of luxury cars and watch water sports demonstrations. We even hear that there is a “surprise” in store too!
The Limassol Boat Show, which is free admission, will be inaugurated officially on Friday the 5th of May at 18:00 and will continue until 21:00. Opening hours for the rest of the weekend will be from 12:00 – 21:00 on Saturday the 6th of May – which will feature an official visit by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, at 19:00 – and then from 12:00 until 20:00 on Sunday the 7th of May.
Limassol Street Life Festival – a dazzling display of street art
The Boat Show is not the only ‘happening’ event in town on the same weekend. Cultural explorers may be drawn into the world of The Limassol Street Life Festival, which is celebrating its 10th year on Saturday 6th May. More than 20,000 people are expected on the streets around Limassol as building walls, sidewalks and abandoned houses become a huge multiple canvas and frenetic inspiration for around 30 artists who will be creating a dazzling display of street art.
The annual Street Life Festival aims to bring “a funky and alternative twist” to the area, offering an urban perspective to rival work on show in other European cities. Regarded as one of the biggest festivals of its kind, visitors can also experience incredible displays of dance and skateboard wizardry, jugglers and street performers. A street market of over 50 different stalls will also be selling handmade jewellery, handcrafts, games, accessories and furniture.
Just two of the most popular events being held over another fun-filled weekend in Limassol! Our guests are always amazed to hear that so much is going on just a few yards from the relaxed tranquil haze of their poolside retreat. Calm contemplation by the Londa Hotel Infinity Pool is an experience that could definitely enhance your visit to the Limassol Boat Show.
