From our blog
“We hear that there is to be a big carnival in Limassol any day now?” An air of anticipation quietly builds up around the district as the second week of February draws closer. This is the traditional start of a fortnight of colourful Carnival mayhem, where ‘stinky’ cheese, meat and wine flows – a little over eight weeks before Orthodox Easter Sunday each year.
Carnival is coming! New Year celebrations are a distant memory as Limassol gets ready to kick off the 2018 season of cultural adventures into the music, dance, food and wine of local tradition. Londa contributes too by presenting throughout the year a regular programme of jazz evenings featuring international musicians.
Best foot forward into 2018! It’s a time-honoured tradition in Cyprus that stepping over the threshold “right foot first” will bring you good luck in the New Year. And it’s happening right here, on the Londa Hotel dancefloor, on New Year’s Eve! After a sumptuous 6 course Gala Dinner at the Caprice, many of our guests will be definitely up for welcoming in the New Year.
Christmas Day is nearly here, and at Londa Hotel… all is calm, all is bright! There’s anticipation in the air – perhaps it’s the temperature of 20C outside! We feel sure that one of the reasons why visitors and guests love spending Christmas in Cyprus is so that they can enjoy all the fine seasonal trimmings in the “warmest” of traditional Mediterranean style – and no icy polar blasts.
Variety is definitely the traditional Cyprus spice that infuses Limassol with the authentic taste of vibrant cultural life – not just during the hottest summer months but the whole year round! We should know – Londa Hotel is perfectly situated at the island’s southerly midpoint, immediately overlooking the timeless Mediterranean shoreline.
Bridal shows and Wedding exhibitions appear to be everywhere in Limassol at this precise moment – just as Londa Hotel plays hosts to this year’s “Mums2Be & Baby Day Expo”. It’s only natural – Cyprus is the birthplace of the mythic goddess of love and creativity – and let’s not forget Leto, Greek goddess of motherhood!
If the vibes are ‘kind of blue’ in the Caprice Restaurant these days it’s because, on a still warm Mediterranean night in early autumn, you’ll be catching some of those cool Jazz sounds. Throughout 2017, Londa Hotel has been presenting a series of Jazz concerts featuring an ensemble of nimble-fingered musicians hailing from Cyprus and Russia.
Summer ending or autumn beginning – you may be wondering as you enter reception at Londa Hotel! There is always a flow of guests checking in for any one of the many events in and around Limassol. Traditionally, autumn is the start of the important international business conference and exhibition season.
Dionysus returns – the Limassol Wine Festival is here! Eleven days of celebrating the ancient Greek God’s favourite fruit of the vine. The Festival is a joyous island tradition, which has been held at this time every year for more than half a century – ever since Cyprus gained its independence in August 1961.
We hear that the weather in Britain has been pleasantly warm recently. Ah, but here in Limassol, where the sun shines for at least nine months in the year, the mercury daily soars up into the high twenties! Maybe that’s why the largest number of visitors to Cyprus – more than 37 per cent – are from the UK.
We’re all feeling a bit starry-eyed and living in La La Land at the moment! We may not have reached the almost record breaking 14 nominations that the Hollywood blockbuster received but Londa Beach Hotel management and staff are still bowled over that once again, we are up for five World Travel Award categories.
