Londa nominated ‘Cyprus Leading Boutique Hotel’ and ‘Europe Leading Lifestyle Hotel 2019’

“I Mamá Mou – here we go again!” It’s voting time in the annual World Travel Awards™ – now in it’s 26th year – and Londa Beach Hotel is nominated in five categories, including Cyprus Leading Boutique Hotel 2019. Voting in the Europe section runs from 11th March to 28th April. CLICK HERE to cast your nomination before the voting closes.

The World Travel Awards™ was established in 1993 to “acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all key sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries”. Since 2007, when it was first voted Cyprus Leading Hotel, Londa has – just like a Super Trouper – returned year after year to pick up the awards for “Cyprus Leading Boutique Hotel” and “Mediterranean Leading Boutique Hotel”. In 2019, Londa is also nominated in the categories of “Cyprus Leading Hotel Suite” and “Europe Leading Lifestyle Hotel”.

First “boutique” hotel in Cyprus

The concept of the “boutique hotel” is acknowledged to have started with the refurbishment of the Morgan Hotel on Madison Venue in New York, USA, back in 1984. But it’s in the last two decades, in particular, that has seen phenomenal growth in 5 star lifestyle accommodation. New generations of curious and aspiring travellers seek more than a “room for the night”. The vacation is increasingly seen as a personal journey. Londa Hotel first opened her doors in 1982, and it wasn’t too long, however, before a complete makeover transformed Londa into the first lifestyle “boutique” hotel in Cyprus.

Londa is perfectly located at the centre of bustling, energetic Limassol, and the very southerly edge of the island’s historic outlook over the eastern Mediterranean. Limassol has been voted the world’s third most popular travel choice, attracting around 3 million visitors every year, many drawn to the authentic, enigmatic mix of the traditional and the modern. Today, you can still see the words of a two thousand year old Sophocles play such as, “Oedipus The King” or “Antigone”, brought back to life at the Kourion Amphitheatre. The next day, perhaps, view the latest generation of Lexus and BMW electric cars at the Limassol Motor Show, held every September at the Old Port.

Londa is only a 10 minute drive along the coastal road to the Old Port, where the elegant stone façade of 13th century Limassol Castle sits alongside a 650-berth modern Marina opened in 2016. Controversial plans are being drawn up to construct another six marinas along Cyprus’s southern shore, in response to the ever increasing numbers of annual visitors.

Search for individually meaningful experiences is also expected

In 2018, international tourist numbers in Cyprus hit 3.9 million compared to 3.6 million in 2017 and up by 65 per cent on the 2.4 million who arrived in 2008 (Cyprus Statistical Service). By 2028, it is forecast that tourist arrivals will reach 5.2 million. The search for individually, meaningful experiences is also expected to rise among a growing cohort of sophisticated, widely-travelled visitors.

The success of the smaller, intimate, design or ideas-led “boutique” hotel is reliant upon offering guests unique, “personalised” experiences not available at a standard hotel chain. The categories of the World Travel Awards™ reflect the huge changes that have redefined the concept of luxury accommodation across the global marketplace.

But how many of the 500 or more hotels listed on the various travel sites for Cyprus have responded to the evolution in global accommodation in the modern era? Catering for the complex holistic needs of today’s well-travelled tourist has redefined ‘luxury style’, which has increasingly come to mean the offering of a range of facilities that engage with personal health and wellbeing.

Pro-active, personalised relaxation

To be ‘boutique’ is to provide an environment for pro-active, personalised relaxation and an enhanced experience. Londa, for example, not only includes a health and beauty spa – providing world-renowned Elemis and Thalgo treatments – but also a gym and sauna, and yoga / meditation sessions, often conducted on the beach. It is often the redemptive experience of purification that brings men and women from all walks of life to the boutique hotel spa on an immersive journey from Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna to plunge pool and jet shower.

Every guest will of course have their own reasons for coming to stay at Londa. The hotel constantly strives to offer events and experiences to its rich diversity of visitors. Throughout the year, a series of Sunday evening Jazz nights featuring international musical collaborations, has proven to be a popular draw on the Limassol music scene. A perfect accompaniment to a an evening meal in Londa’s Italian-themed Caprice Restaurant, where 5-star cuisine is prepared daily from the finest selection of authentic fresh, local produce. Caprice also holds specialist wine tasting evenings from selected traditional family-owned vineyards cultivated high up in the Troodos Mountains.

Keeping fingers and toes crossed

But which one of the 68 high-ceilinged bedrooms across Londa’s seven floors – each uniquely furnished in handcrafted Cypriot lace, antique filigree silver and olive wood – will be nominated Cyprus Leading Hotel Suite 2019? Only those who have run their own fingers over the intriguing textures and warm tones might know! On their immersive journey, from the touch of crisp white linen to sensuous leather, glowing to subtly lit effect.

Everyone at Londa Hotel is once again, truly honoured and humbled to be nominated this year, and are keeping fingers and toes crossed. It may be the Name Of The Game but will the Winner Take It All? The awards will be presented at the Europe Gala Ceremony in Madeira, Portugal on 8th June 2019.
